More than 85% of European travelers have either used or plan to use cryptocurrencies for vacation expenses, according to a recent Bitget survey. The trend reflects growing mainstream adoption despite lingering technical and regulatory hurdles.

Daily expenses (59%), accommodations (58.6%), and transportation (55.2%) emerge as top use cases. The shift mirrors broader institutional adoption, with Tether's $120 billion Treasury bond portfolio now surpassing Germany's holdings.

Key advantages driving adoption include elimination of foreign exchange fees, transaction speed, and payment privacy. Germany and Poland show particularly strong uptake, signaling crypto's maturation as a travel payment instrument.

European Travelers Embrace Crypto for Holiday Spending, Bitget Survey Reveals

Cryptocurrency is rapidly transitioning from investment portfolios to real-world utility, with European travelers leading the charge. A Bitget survey of over 3,000 users found 85.32% have used or WOULD consider using crypto for travel bookings—primarily for daily expenses, accommodation, and transport. Stablecoins dominate as the preferred payment method, followed by Bitcoin, despite lingering merchant acceptance hurdles.

"The demand for practical crypto applications is undeniable," said Bitget CEO Gracy Chen. Travel’s universal appeal makes it a natural testing ground for mass adoption, bolstered by improving payment infrastructure. Yet challenges remain: 91% of respondents cited limited provider acceptance as a barrier.
